Are you ready to learn how to stop comparing yourself to others? It’s a struggle, since everyone wants to be the best at what they do. For moms, that is definitely an understatement. Thanks to Pinterest and society as a whole, we all strive to be the best parent we can for our children.

However, comparing yourself to other moms can be detrimental for your home life. Longing to be a good cook like Becky or a great seamstress like Rachel isn’t going to do you any good in your own home. In fact, it can harm the time and effort you spend on your own family.

How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others – For Moms

The following are a few thoughts on how to eliminate the self-comparisons with other moms. It’s not healthy for you, your spouse, or your children for you to always think you are inferior to other mothers!

Don’t think any mom is perfect…

When it comes to comparisons, you should know that looks can be (and often are) deceiving. Just because a mom appears to have it all together on Facebook or even out in the real world doesn’t mean that is always the case. Everyone has made a mistake (or 10) when it comes to parenting, so don’t feel that you have to be perfect.

Do what’s right for your family…

When it comes to motherhood, there isn’t always a right or wrong. Just because Susan feeds her children only organic foods doesn’t mean your child will suffer if he has an occassional Ring Pop or handful of Cheetos. Just because Amber doesn’t allow TV for her kids doesn’t mean you can’t let yours watch Paw Patrol. Even if they appear to turn their nose up at your parenting actions, you know what is right for your child.

Set realistic expectations for yourself…

In order to stop comparing yourself to others, you have to stop thinking you can be just like them. It’s just not always possible! if you aren’t the best baker in town or you are rushed for time, it’s okay to buy those 2 dozen of cupcakes at the grocery store for your kid’s class party. Know your own limits and skills, and don’t set crazy expectations that will only let yourself down if you fail. Parenting is not a competition!

Know it’s okay to be your own person…

Individuality is a wonderful thing. If you are teaching your children to be their own person, it doesn’t help when you are constantly comparing yourself to others. Take a lesson from your own parenting guidebook and embrace your uniqueness! Don’t worry if you are wearing last years sandals or you let your children dye their hair during the summer. It’s better to stand out and be yourself than try to blend in with everyone else.
